Beaded Purses

This is a collection of three ladies' purses (others shown below), each made sometime between 1910 and 1925, from Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and France. All three purses use tiny glass beads to make colorful designs. During the early 20th century, beaded embellishments were a common feature on gowns, bags, gloves, jewelry, hairpieces, and shoes. Women typically carried purses like these at parties or evening events. These purses are interesting to historians because even though they are from different countries, they all look very similar. They are a good example of globalization in the 20th century.
